Babylon, with a flambeaux-lit parade, has the look and feel of the traditional nighttime krewes. The organization was founded in 1939, and named after the ancient city on the Euphrates River. The parade, designed by Carnival historian Henri Schindler, features a mule-drawn king’s float, several signature floats (including the Hanging Gardens of Babylon float and the Tower of Babel float), and the captain and lieutenants ride on horseback.
