This krewe, over 80 years old, is named for the neighborhood in which it was founded. It will feature 25 floats this year. According to the krewe web site, Carrollton was organized in 1924 by a group of local businessmen, parading on Mardi Gras Day in their neighborhood. In 1933, when rain forced the cancellation of most of parades, including Rex, Carrollton presented the only daytime parade of the season. Following World War II, during which there was no Mardi Gras celebration, the men of Carrollton reorganized. The krewe was also instrumental in helping two other top-notch krewes, Endymion and Zeus, get off the ground in their early years. Carrollton now boasts more than 200 members.
