Zeus is Metairie’s oldest parade, named for the ruler of all Greek gods.  In recent years it presented a sharp, well-designed, fun parade on Lundi Gras in Metairie.  Look for the captain and lieutenants riding on horseback at the head of the parade, as well as the mule-drawn calliope.  Also this year, in an unusual and sure-to-be popular move, the person who catches a lucky lanyard, thrown from one of the floats, can redeem it for a free Harley-Davidson motorcycle, valued at nearly $20,000.  Adding to the fun, grand marshals this year are WWL Radio's sports hosts Bobby Hebert & Deke Bellavia. Zeus and its new sister krewe, Hera, have also announced plans for a big Lundi Gras music festival before their parade, on the neutral ground at Veterans Blvd. & Severn Ave.  Three bands will perform from 12:30 until 5 p.m. and there will be food, vendors, entertainment and crafts.
