Looking to find out more about the history of the unique Mardi Gras Indian culture that we have in New Orleans, we went straight to the source: the Backstreet Cultural Museum in Treme. A small, cozy building on St. Claude, the museum gives visitors a look at the work and beautiful art that go into making the suits so pretty for second-line parades, jazz funerals and Fat Tuesday.
