Belfield said the old methodology used to skip draining the coconuts, giving it a heavier feel. While some coconuts nowadays still keep the inside intact, because of rising insurance costs the club has had to drain more of them, Belfield said.
Before this recent trend of draining the coconut, it was common for the weight of the total amount of coconuts on the float to exceed the weight of all the riders.
