Belfield said there are two ways to decorate a coconut: the “old way” and the “modern way.” The old way involves preparing and shaving the coconut personally; the modern way – or “lazy way,” as Belfield called it – is to decorate a pre-drained and shaved coconut from a factory. Over the past 10 years, Belfield said, more and more people have decided to turn to the lazy way.
“It was more of an authentic process,” Belfield said of the old way. “It was made by my hands.”
