NEW ORLEANS - For many New Orleans public school students, Monday is the first day of classes.

To make sure they're all ready to start studying, the Nicks International Community Foundation and the Don't Even Trip Dream Foundation will hold a back to school event on Saturday.

Not only will students receive free school supplies, but there will be free health screenings and entertainment by young local performers.

Cheryl Nicks, founder of the Nicks International Community Goundation, and Laci Broussard, the executive director, were in the studio with more information.

The Lower Ninth Way Creative Arts Festival and Back to School Give-a-Way will take place in Sam Bonart Park at 1201 Forstall St. from noon until 4 p.m.

You can call 948-4117 for more information or visit https://www.donteventripdreamfoundation.org/BACK_TO_SCHOOL_RALLIES.php.
