NEW ORLEANS - Treme is one of New Orleans' oldest African-American neighborhoods, known for its street culture, traditional jazz or brass bands and Mardi Gras Indians.

That rich heritage is being celebrated at the St. Peter Claver Jazz Extravaganza, which financially supports the school's academic, religious and social goals.

Warren Bell with St. Peter Claver was in the studio to explain.

The event is Saturday at 8 p.m. at St. Peter Claver's Music Hall on the school's grounds at 1020 N. Prieur St.

For more information, call 822-8059.

James Andrews was in the studio with a preview of his performance.
