NEW ORLEANS - Gretna native Mindy Elizabeth Guidry was a fighter who didn't let a rare bone cancer keep her from living a fulfilling life.
She attended UNO and was just a few hours shy of completing her bachelor's degree when she succumbed to the disease in 2007.
Since then, there is an endowed scholarship to honor Guidry at UNO.
Each year, her family and friends host "Min-day" in support of that scholarship and bone cancer research.
Kim Guidry, Mindy Guidry's mother, and Dalila Seruntine, founder of the band Groovy 7, were in the studio with more information.
The band will be performing Sunday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Rock 'n' Bowl.
The event's proceeds benefit the cancer program at Children's Hospital.
