NEW ORLEANS - Local jeweler Anne Dale recently discovered a brand new gemstone, and it's actually made from our own Louisiana oyster shell.

This new gemstone was officially named our Louisiana state gemstone.

Although oyster shells may be plentiful around the state, Dale was in the studio to tell us why this beautiful new shell can be a very rare find.

You can see this brand new gemstone at the Louisiana Oyster Festival at Woldenberg Riverfront Park.
