NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Wednesday is the start of the big run of parades leading up to Mardi Gras Day, and like every year, it is a race to see if the rainy weather will outlast the parades or if it will dissipate in time for some dry fun on the parade route.

There have been widespread storms across the entire metro area early Wednesday morning, a flash flood warning in effect for the south shore until at least 9:00 a.m., and a chance of rain throughout the afternoon.

With so much wet weather Wednesday morning, and with two Carnival Krewes hitting the streets Wednesday night, parade goers are hoping the rain will hold off for Ancient Druids and the Mystic Krewe of Nyx.

Antwan Harris joins the Eyewitness Morning News live on the parade route, Uptown, with more on what parade goers should expect.
