For communities hit hard by Hurricane Isaac, the recovery may take weeks, months or years.

For them, long term assistance is need to care for their basic needs.

Now, with approval by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will provide families with access to funds for food.

Secretary of the Department of Children and Family Services, Suzy Sonnier.

If you'd like to receive help through the program, you need to pre-apply before Wednesday.

You can do that by phone at 1-888-LA-HELP-YOU (1-888-524-3578.)

You can also pre-apply online at www.dcfs.la.gov/preapply.

If you are already receiving food stamps, you do not have to re-apply.
