The west bank of Saint Charles Parish is on its way toward better flood protection with the groundbreaking earlier this year on a new levee project for that area, but it's still several years away from completion, so the Eyewitness Morning News is talking about hurricane season with Ronald Perry, the Director of Emergency Preparedness for Saint Charles Parish.

If you live in St. Charles Parish and are elderly or have special medical needs and will need help during a hurricane evacuation, you should call (985) 783-5050. You can also log on to the parish website.

Also, in Lafourche Parish, you should call (985) 537-7603, if you need help evacuating during a storm.

In Terrebonne Parish, call (985) 868-8411.
