Kwanzaa events begin around New Orleans metro area

The weeklong celebration of African heritage, Kwanzaa, begins today. Created in 1966, many people choose to celebrate it in addition to Christmas. Joining the Eyewitness Morning News, is the President of the Congo Square Preservation Society, Luther Gray, as well as the Vice President, Jamilah Muhammad and Executive Director of the Ashe Cultural Arts Center, Carol Bebelle.

Also in the segment, an incredible performance by drummer Luther Gray, who will also be demonstrating traditional African American drumming at the Ashe' Cultural Arts Center's annual Kwanzaa event, a week-long event that starts December 26.

The Ashe Cultural Arts Center is hosting the annual Kwanzaa event, which runs through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Children age 6 - 16 can participate, and there is a $25 tuition fee and a $10 registration fee, that will be waived for current Kuumba Saturday program students.
