25 years ago, one of the most influential graffiti artists in the world, Jean-Michelle Basquait paid a visit to New Orleans. It was his one and only trip to the city and three days later, he died.

Now, on the silver anniversary of Basquait’s death, some of the best street artists of the day are gathering in New Orleans to pay tribute to his work.

Joining the Eyewitness Morning News with more about the tribute to Basquait is Al Diaz, one of Basquait’s closest friends, and local artist Brandan Odums.

The two day celebration begins Friday evening with 3 artists who will create the largest graffiti wall art in the south, at the brickyard at 3000 Chartres Street in the Bywater, from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. and then the party continues Saturday evening, from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. at the International House when local developer Sean Cummings will host a multi-media tribute to the late artist.
