All this week, the Eyewitness Morning News will be talking with local emergency managers and parish officials, now that the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season has officially begun.

From the city of New Orleans is Lt. Col. Jerry Sneed, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Director for the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

If you live in Orleans Parish and will need help evacuating because of special medical needs, you should dial 311 to sign up for help. You can also sign up online at ready.nola.gov, and get lots of other information for the hurricane season.

Tomorrow, we'll talk to leaders from Jefferson and Saint Tammany parishes.

Tonight at 7 p.m. we'll bring you our Eye on Hurricanes special with important information for the hurricane season that you won’t want to miss.
