NEW ORLEANS - Once the stuff of science fiction and cartoons, robots are becoming common place.

From car manufacturing to operating rooms to vacuum cleaners, simple robots are everywhere.

So what will the future bring?

Two organizations, Building Louisiana Science and Technolgy BLAST) and For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST,) are taking that question to today's teenagers.

Barbara Pailet of BLAST and Jon Paul Tallman, a former Destrehan High School FIRST robot team member turned LSU electrical engineering major, joined Digital Gumbo's Mark Lewis.

If you want to support BLAST and FIRST, the Louisiana Technology Council has teamed up with the Brown Foundation to host a Robotic Revelry Gala on Saturday from 7 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. at the World War II Museum.

Three student teams will demonstrate their robots at the event.
