NEW ORLEANS - The 16 young New Orleans musicians who went to Japan on a musical and cultural exchange came home Monday night after a very rewarding and successful trip.
Eight of the student were from the Tipitina's intern program and eight were O. Perry Walker students.
The Chosen Ones Brass Band traveled across northern Japan in areas that were hit hard by the earthquake and tsunami.
Their goal was to bring New Orleans music to the people and students there.
The trip was funded by the Tipitina's Foundation and the Japan Foundation.
Among the cities they visited was a town called Kesennuma, which was hit hard by the tsunami.
A student band there, The Swing Dolphins, lost their instruments, but received new ones from the Tipitina's Foundation.
The young New Orleans musicians brought joy to the people there in a special concert with The Swing Dolphins. This concert was just one of several they performed overseas.
It was a big learning experience for these fine young men, Eric Paulsen, who traveled with the group, said.
