On Monday, Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts, the sister of Sally-Ann Roberts, announced that she has a rare blood disorder of the bone marrow and may be in need of a bone marrow transplant.

The National Bone Marrow Registry is crucial in cases like these.

But there are many myths involved with bone marrow donation, many that need to be debunked so that they don’t deter potential donors.

Natalie Rowe of the National Marrow Donor Program for the Southcentral District spoke with Eric Paulsen and Mike Hoss on Tuesday to help debunk the myths.

For more information about becoming a bone marrow donor, just call the National Marrow Donor Program in our area at 985-788-9461 or log on to www.bethematch.org.

You can also go to the blood center, where swabbing kits are available. That's at 3400 16th street in Metairie behind lakeside mall.
