METAIRIE, La. -- Seven months after the president and principal of Archbishop Rummel High School abruptly left their positions, Archbishop Gregory Aymond has named Christian Brother Gale Condit as president of the Metairie school.
The Archdiocese of New Orleans said the announcement was made to faculty and staff Thursday by Dr. Jan Lancaster, Superintendent of Catholic Schools.
Condit will be formally presented to the school’s faculty and students at an assembly on Friday morning.
He replaces Michael Begg, who stepped down in July. Principal Thomas Moran quit his position the same day. The Archbishop named Michael Scalco, a Rummel alumnus who had been the school’s vice president, interim president/principal.
The departures of both top administrators signaled a time of change at the Metairie school which has seen its enrollment shrink in recent years.
Condit is a former teacher and administrator at Rummel who spent time on the faculty of two other local Christian Brothers high schools, St. Paul’s School in Covington and De La Salle in New Orleans. He is currently vice-principal for development at St. Paul’s.
“I am very pleased and excited that Br. Gale would choose to return to Archbishop Rummel in the role of president,” said Archbishop Aymond in a statement. “I believe this is a very good step forward for the Archbishop Rummel community, and a step forward that shows respect for the school’s past with a return of a Christian Brother to lead the school in the Lasallian tradition.”
