OPINION: Never before. Never before. I’ve seen a lot of Saints games that have ended badly under similar circumstances, I’ve never seen one that has ended so well under those circumstances.

That was, all things considered, for a regular season game, the most incredible game in Saints history.

You figured it was over. They had a chip-shot field goal to make it a ten-point game, a couple of minutes left, you figured this game was over. The Saints never did lead, the entire ball game, until Hartley’s field goal in overtime. I’ve seen very few Saints victories in overtime, I’m sure I’ve never seen a win in overtime in a game in which they’ve never led.

It’s getting hard not to believe in destiny. Look at all the things that happened to their benefit today, the crazy things, like the play by Meachem, I’ve never seen a play like that occur anywhere, but certainly not for the Saints. The fumble by Sellers that gets reviewed upstairs, they call a timeout with a second remaining or that play’s gonna be run and it gets reviewed upstairs and that’s the play that turns the game around.

The Redskins, all year long, have had trouble holding a lead, so it’s almost a self-fulfilling prophecy, that when they get in that situation, they think, “Here we go again.”

The Saints all year long, although they played from ahead most of the time, comfortably ahead, but thinking back to the Miami game, is a team that has told themselves, no matter the circumstances, play for 60 minutes, today they played for 60 minutes plus.

That’s the kind of attitude you have to have to win championships, like they did today – at least a division championship – to win perhaps a conference championship, or a Super Bowl.

Someone remarked to me coming out of the press box that if this is not our year, it will never be our year. What has happened so far with this football team – they’ve never been 12-0, they’ve never won a game under these circumstances, I mean, it’s hard to deny. I’m not saying they’re going to win the Super Bowl, but if this isn’t the Saints year, when will it be?
