Lung cancer accounts for the most cancer-related deaths in both men and women in the United States and cigarette smoking is the most important risk factor for lung cancer. But there are other factors that can contribute to the development of lung cancer, including genetic susceptibility.
Research at the LSU Health Sciences Center is about to begin to identify a possible genetic marker for lung cancer.
Dr. Diptasri Mandal, a geneticist, and Jill Hutchinson talked with Rob Nelson about the research.
