HARAHAN, La. (AP) -- Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies say a LaPlace man died following in a car-motorcycle crash.
The accident happened about 5:25 p.m. Monday near the Elmwood Shopping Center.
Col. James Fortunato says 58-year-old James P. Upton's motorcycle hit a car being driven by 32-year-old Jamilia Pichon of Metairie as she pulled out of the shopping center parking lot.
Pichon told deputies she did not see the motorcycle coming.
Upton was treated on the scene by emergency medical personnel and his injuries did not appear life-threatening. While being transported to Ochsner Medical Center, Fortunato said Upton began to experience medical problems. He was pronounced dead at the hospital two hours later.
