NEW ORLEANS - The state Attorney General’s Office has filed suit against international and domestic manufacturers, distributors, importers of toxic Chinese drywall as well as several builders.

The office is holding a 2 p.m. press conference to discuss the suit.

Attorney General Buddy Caldwell filed suit Wednesday in Orleans Parish against “multiple Knauf entities, other international and domestic manufacturers, distributors, importers of toxic Chinese drywall as well as several builders alleging the State of Louisiana has and will continue to suffer economic loss because of the defendants’ manufacture, distribution, sale and/or installation of defective and toxic Chinese drywall,” said a statement from Caldwell.

The state, according to Caldwell, filed the suit to recuperate money lost in sales, property and income taxes as a result of toxic, Chinese drywall, which they allege can cause health problems, such as respiratory illness, and can have corrosive effects on household wiring and be a potential fire hazard.

“Today’s suit was not filed to pursue private claims of homeowners who renovated after Katrina with Chinese drywall,” said Caldwell.  “Individual homeowners are still encouraged to contact a private attorney of their choice should they believe they have Chinese drywall in their home.”

To file a complaint, consumers can the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office at 800-351-4889 or www.agbuddycaldwell.com and the Consumer Product Safety Commission at 1-800-638-2772 or www.cpsc.gov/info/drywall/index.html.

If it is not to help the homeowners, then what is it for, just to say you did something about it, without really doing anything.

Ok, if the filing was not intended to redress homeowners and others to make them whole, why the hell was it filed?? To slap their wrist and say, "don't do that again?"
