CHALMETTE, La. - Two teens have been arrested and another is being sought on charges they used a BB gun to shoot out 40 street lights in the parish last week, according to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office.

Shawn Galle, 17, along with an unnamed 15-year-old were charged with felony criminal damage to property over $500.

According to Sheriff-Elect James Pohlmann, the pair, along with another 15-year-old, shot out the lights on Feb. 1. The damage was estimated to be about $6,800.

Parish President David Peralta said he takes the incident seriously because it will cost parish government about $6,800 to replace the lighting, including costs for the bulbs and shields as well as the cost required for parish crews to replace them.

“All efforts will be made to seek restitution’’ for the costs of replacement, Peralta said. “Parish government is going to have zero tolerance for damage done to parish property.’’

Steet lights were shot out the night of Feb. 1 on Jupiter, Titans and Shangri-La drives in Chalmette. The gun used hasn’t been recovered.
