NEW ORLEANS -- Large crowds and 13 years of successful concerts mean that this year’s Wednesday at the Square events will be 30 minutes longer, the Young Leadership Council announced Friday.
The free concert series in Lafayette Square kicks off March 14 and runs through May 30. For the first time, the music will last until 8 p.m., organizers said.
Headliners for this year’s series include Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Theresa Andersson, Jeremy Davenport and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
The Young Leadership Council launched the concert series in 1999. Last year the concert area expanded onto N. Maestri Street, the area between the 650 Poydras Street building and Lafayette Square.
In addition to the music, Wednesday at the Square features an Artist Village, showcasing handcrafted arts and crafts items. Food and beverage sales benefit the YLC’s community projects as well.
