MARRERO, La. -- Deputies say that a double shooting in Marrero late Tuesday night claimed the life of one of the victims, a 18-year-old woman.

When officers responded to the 2000 block of Basie Drive, a 18-year-old Alisha Lee, of Marrero, was found lying in the back seat of a car, police said. She had been shot several times and was pronounced dead on the scene.  A 20-year-old man, Danny Young, of Marrero, was shot in the lower back and taken to the hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening.

“Homicide detectives learned both victims were preparing to leave the area after getting into the 2006 Hyundai,” said JP sheriff's office spokesman Col. John Fortunato.  “Moments later multiple gunshots rang out causing Young to exit the vehicle and flee.”

If you know anything about this shooting, call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.

Considering where this is located, does it really surprise anyone? If you are familiar with that area you should know that your chances of being robbed are extremely high and if I were to guess, that is what was probably happening. No telling what they were involved in , God bless the families of these two individuals.

Another late night killing in a high drug-trafficking area. Such a pitiful thing that two more young lives are no longer. A sad situation.

Correction of my previous comment: One life was lost, at least the other individual survived with non life threatening injuries.
