ATLANTA -- On Saturday, family and the hip-hop community gathered to say its final good-byes to beloved Atlanta rapper, Shawty Lo.

The rapper, who's given name was Carlos Walker, was a founding member of the hip-hop group D4L. In 2003, he founded D4L Records. His best-known single was “Dey Know."

Funeral services were held at the Jackson Memorial Baptist Church on Fairburn Road in Atlanta, and were set to begin Saturday morning. 11Alive streamed the memorial, with permission from Walker's family, for those who wished to pay their respects, but couldn't do so in person. Walker was killed earlier in September after he was ejected onto I-285 after his 2016 Audi crashed through the highway guardrail and caught fire. The official cause of death in the accident was ruled to be blunt force trauma, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's office.

Tributes poured in for the rapper after news of his death broke. D4L members said the whole sad situation felt "like a dream."

"He definitely had a lot of love for everyone out here," D4L manager Johnnie Cabbell said. "He was real. Very authentic. Wasn’t nothing fake about Shawty Lo."

Walker grew up in Bowen Homes, an Atlanta public housing development. As his music career grew, so did his family. He was the father of 11 children.
