Now recent studies appear to show that walking may also help prevent age-related macular degeneration. AMD is an eye disease that can cause you to lose your vision if left untreated. It is one of the most common causes of eyesight loss in people over 60. It affects the portion of the eye’s retina that helps define clear, sharp images.
In its advanced stages, images may appear blurry. Those who are smokers or overweight or have family histories of AMD are at the greatest risk.
Researchers aren’t sure what the connection is between walking and reduced risks of AMD but, whether you walk or not, proper attention to your eyes is important. Go in for regular checkups with an optometrist.
