In the early morning hours of Friday, a two vehicle accident resulted in the death of one person and sent four others to the hospital when a car carrying five people struck the tire of an 18-wheeler.

The accident occurred on LA 308 south of Valetine, La. in Lafourche Parish.

WWL-TV

The 18-wheeler driven by Charles Morland, 35, Napleonville, La., was passing the Toyota Camry driven by Danis Flores, 18, Galliano, La., in a legal passing zone, when Flores tried to pass a vehicle in front of him, stricking the front tire of Morland’s truck.

Flores’ car rotated clockwise and went across the oncoming lane, striking a tree and overturning; the car struck another tree on the roof.

There were five people in the Camry, all of whom were wearing seat belts.  The front passenger was killed due to injuries from the crash.  The other four in the car were sent to Lady of the Sea Hospital in Cutoff, La. by Acadian Ambulance.

The notification of kin is still pending and the individual killed has not been released.

Morland was also wearing his seatbelt and refused medical attention at the scene.  An investigation is still continuing by state police.
