BAYOU BLUE -- A 2-year-old boy from Bayou Blue almost drowned in an inflatable pool Sunday afternoon, officials said.

The boy’s name and condition were not immediately available this morning.
Family members called 911 shortly before 6 p.m. to report that a child had fallen in the pool, which held about 3 feet of water, Bayou Blue Fire Chief Harvey Parks said.
Family members pulled him out and performed CPR. By the time about 10 firefighters arrived, the child was breathing on his own but not responsive.
Firefighters gave the child oxygen and checked his pulse. Acadian Ambulance arrived shortly after and delivered the boy to Terrebonne General Medical Center.
According to Parks, the family told officials they’d been sitting in the yard near the pool. A ladder used to access the pool had been removed, but it remained nearby, Parks said. The family lives in the Lafourche Parish portion of Bayou Blue.
The near-drowning comes during a month-long public-awareness campaign designed to prevent child drownings and promote swimming-pool safety spurred by the family of Hayden Davenport, a 2-year-old Houma boy who drowned in September in a neighbor’s swimming pool. Supporters held a Saturday night vigil for Davenport and other child drowning victims.
