11:30 AM CST on Tuesday, January 6, 2009
AMITE, La. -- A combined air and ground search -- using deputies, K-9 units and one helicopter -- is underway in a wooded area in Tangipahoa Parish for at least two suspects thought to be involved in an early-morning shooting incident.
Radio broadcasts monitored by the Eyewitness News Northshore Bureau indicate that law enforcement officials are apparently searching for two black males who fled into a wooded area. There are no details as to the nature of the incident or if anyone was wounded in the apparent shooting.
Radio voice transmissions indicate that both deputies on the ground and in the air are combing the wooded area in a systematic search in an effort to locate the suspects.
Earlier, Tangipahoa deputies had been searching for two suspects thought to have been involved in a recent home invasion incident in the Roseland area. It is not known at this time if this incident is related.
Numerous calls requesting more information from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office have gone unanswered and unreturned. We will have more details on this story as we receive them here at the Northshore Bureau.
