Chief Bruce Cutrer said 23-year-old Lee Widas was arrested after a fire broke out in nearby Roseland Saturday at 3 a.m.
"(He was a) really good kid," said Chief Jerry Trabona of the Amite Police Department. "It's hard to believe that Lee would do something like that. It really stunned everybody. Stunned me. But Lee, I knew if he did that he would tell me."
According to Cutrer, over the past two weeks there have been fires at a school, two vacant homes, a mobile home, a playground concession stand and a restroom.
