A Ponchatoula woman was killed when she pulled out on to LA 22 and was hit by a man from Gonzales.

Lemelda Levigne, 80, Ponchatoula, was at a stop sign at the intersection of Thibodeaux Road and LA 22. When she made a left turn on to LA 22, she was hit by Robert Gautreau, 23, Gonzales, who traveling westbound on LA 22 and was towing a boat.

Gautreau’s Toyota truck traveled off the road and hit a barricade, which was protecting a local business.

Levigne was taken to North Oaks Medical Center and treated for severe injuries.  She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Gautreau was not injured in the crash.

Alcohol is not suspected in the crash and both were wearing seatbelts.
