PONCHATOULA, La. -- Tangipahoa Parish school officials had a little surprise waiting for them at Tucker Elementary School when classes began parishwide last week.

Bats were found in one classroom at Tucker, a school of first- and second-graders near Ponchatoula.
Spokeswoman Cindy Benitez says students assigned to that one classroom had to be moved to the cafeteria, but class went on as normal throughout the rest of the school.
School maintenance crews were called and the bats were removed Friday.
