St. Tammany Parish President issues a state of emergency

11:45 AM CDT on Friday, August 29, 2008

Chad Bower / Eyewitness News

St. Tammany Parish President Kevin Davis has declared a state of emergency in anticipation of Tropical Storm Gustav.

“It is still too early to tell exactly how Gustav will impact St. Tammany,” said Davis. “However, we must be prepared.”

For residents who need information regarding sandbags, shelters, evacuation orders and other information, call 985-809-2300.

Currently, as of 11:30 a.m. Friday, no shelters are open in St. Tammany and no evacuations have been ordered. Officials will reassess this when the storm has taken a more definite path.

For more information, stay tuned at WWLTV.com and go to the St. Tammany Parish website.

Updates are also available on Channel 10 in St. Tammany Parish on Charter Cable. Channel 10 is also webcast from the St. Tammany Parish website.
