Northshore High locked down after student reports seeing someone carrying a gun

10:26 AM CDT on Thursday, September 25, 2008

Tom Planchet / Eyewitness News

Northshore High School in Slidell was placed on lockdown Wednesday as police teams searched the campus after a student allegedly saw a person carrying a gun on campus, said Slidell Police spokesman Kevin Foltz.

Just minutes after a responding officer went to the last known location of the subject, around 30 Slidell police offers began to arrive at the school, with 50 deputies from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office to assist, Foltz said. Members of the Slidell Police SWAT team helped as well.

Officers were unable to find any evidence of the suspect and were unable to locate the suspect on school surveillance video tapes. K-9 dogs weren’t able to detect any gunpowder either.

By 3:30 p.m., police said that students were allowed to go about their daily school activities.

Foltz said that there would be several patrol officers at the school during the arrival of the students in the morning.
