16-year-old girl arrested for false report of gun at Northshore High School

10:54 AM CDT on Wednesday, October 1, 2008

Tom Planchet / Eyewitness News

A 16-year-old Northshore High School student lied about seeing a man carrying a gun on campus in an incident that led to the lockdown of the school and the deployment of over 80 police officers to the campus last week, according to Slidell Police spokesman Kevin Foltz.

The teen was arrested on charges of terrorizing and false reporting of a crime.

According to Foltz, several interviews with the girl led them to believe that there were problems with her story.

Foltz said the girl was asked to take a lie detector test, which showed that she was being deceptive. The girl was interviewed again and admitted that she lied, according to Foltz.

The motive for the crime was not being given because police said it was not in the girl’s best interest.

The false report last Wednesday led the school to lockdown and several police and SWAT units to respond.
