Former district attorney arrested after fight in court

HOUMA – A former Terrebonne Parish district attorney was arrested Friday for allegedly attacking another lawyer in court during an argument over legal fees, authorities said. Douglas Greenburg, 59, was in court shortly before noon requesting that Judge Randy Bethancourt award him lawyer’s fees in a March civil case he had won over attorney Anthony Lewis, when the two men’s legal arguments escalated into personal insults, according to a Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office release. After an exchange of profanities, Greenburg allegedly grabbed Lewis’ coat and, after a brief struggle, Lewis fell to the floor, the release states. Lewis was taken to Terrebonne General Medical Center to be checked for minor injuries and released shortly afterward, the release states. After a sheriff’s office investigation, Greenburg was charged with simple battery and taken to the Terrebonne Parish jail around 3:30 p.m. He was released shortly afterward on $500 bond, officials said.
