The famous Saint Charles streetcars may be rolling again soon in New Orleans -- just not on the usual route.

The city streetcars were another victim of Hurricane Katrina.

The old green cars that have plied the Uptown route for the past 170 years survived, but the electric lines that power them were wiped out.

All but one of the new red cars that run along the Mississippi River and on Canal Street were ruined by flood waters, although their tracks were not damaged.

On Monday, the Regional Transit Authority will use a dump truck to tow one of the green cars to Canal Street in hopes of restoring some service.

The old 35 streetcars were parked in the Uptown barn and escaped unscathed. The new cars were taken to the Canal Street barn which flooded.
