A 39-year-old man from Montz, Louisiana was killed Saturday when he lost control of his vehicle and plunged into a canal in Norco, State Police reported.

Gene Fryoux Jr., 39, was traveling northbound on U.S. 61 around 11:30 a.m. when police say he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a canal parallel to the roadway.

The vehicle was completely submerged and Fryoux was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Police said speed may have played a factor in the accident.
