ACLU sues Tangipahoa school board over prayer

The ACLU has filed another lawsuit against the Tangipahoa Parish school board over prayer at its meetings, according to director Marjorie R. Esman.

The suit is the seventh the organization has filed against the board over school prayer.

According to the ACLU, the Tangipahoa School Board’s new policy of inviting clergy from religious congregations with an established presence in the local community allows it to favor some religions over others and forces the public attending school board meetings to sit through prayers from a faith they don’t share.
