Carjacked family gets dog back after 5 days

An Uptown family that had its car stolen at gunpoint with their dog in the backseat received some good news this weekend when its dog was returned to them.

Sasha Lasky and her dog Maple.

Dr. Joe Lasky had just picked up his fifth grade daughter from Newman School earlier this week and was waiting for his son when an SUV pulled up in front of the school, blocked in their car and a woman got out and demanded their car at gunpoint.

The Laskys gave up the car but their Pomeranian dog Maple was in the back seat.

A search for the suspects has so far been unsuccessful, but the dog has been returned.

Police wouldn’t give many details but the dog was found in a home and Dr. Lasky picked it up at the Second District police station.

Lasky and some friends had put up flyers of the dog on the west bank after police had told them they suspected the car may have been taken there.

”Just absolutely thrilled to have the dog back and very relieved  that hoping that having the dog back in my daughter's arms would help her kind of get over a little bit about what she saw  with the carjacking,” said Lasky. “She's been having some difficulty sleeping and some nightmares and I am hoping this will ease that.”

The Laskys say that Maple will visit the veterinarian next week, and, in addition to her shots, she will get a homing chip put in so that if she ever gets lost again, the family can find her.
