Seniors can get help with prescriptions
05:27 PM CDT on Tuesday, March 20, 2007
Large crowds of seniors lined up to get information and help on paying for their prescription drugs Monday morning in Bogalusa.
The reason? - a state-funded program that helps seniors traverse the maze of plans that offer help in paying for prescription drugs.
The program has two more stops on the Northshore this week – Tuesday in Covington from Noon until 2 p.m. at the library on West 21st Street and Wednesday in Ponchatoula from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the library on North Fifth Street.
Seniors can also call the state at any time at 1-800-280-0908.
The program is aimed at people over 60 who need help in paying their bills.
State workers familiar with many state, federal and private plans then help seniors choose and apply for the plans that best suit them.
State officials say that since the program began in 2004, it has helped more than 40,000 seniors get over $60 million in prescription aid.
