Real estate agents say Lakeview property values going up

Even though it may seem to be moving at a snail's pace, Lakeview seems to be well on its way in the road to recovery. Nearly 19 months after the post-Katrina flood, real estate agents said property values in the neighborhood have climbed recently.

Property values on the rise in Lakeview, according to real estate agents.
Hurricane Katrina split the Lakeview real estate market; no longer are there simply homes for sale, but rather multiple categories of them: renovated or gutted, and empty lots are also available.
It’s a new kind of market that still has both buyers and sellers puzzled.
"We knew that people had a lot of questions in and around town that they constantly ask us,” said real estate agent Gigi Burk. “We just put all of those questions together and then approach it in that regard."
Burk put together a seminar called ‘Celebrate Lakefront Living’ to answer questions about insurance, remodeling and much more.
Burk said the more answers home buyers and sellers get about Lakeview's future, the more the community recovers one home at a time, like a domino effect: one house often starts a street full of renovations.
"Just in my office alone this past week, we had six contracts come through," she said.
And Burk said that's a sign of things to come, including a rise in home and property values.
