A heroin bust in Marrero Friday night helped take nearly $62,000 worth of the drug off the street, according to members of the West Bank Major Crimes Task Force.

The Gretna Police Department said that the task force received information that heroin was being distributed by two men and that some of the activity was taking place at 7426 Claremont Drive in Marrero.

A search warrant at the home turned up 100 grams of heroin and a few grams of marijuana, according to the report.

Police took 35-year-old Eddie Sturgis into custody and charged him with possession with the intent to distribute heroin, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. They are looking for 35-year-old Ivan Houston, whose last known address was 6045 St. Ferdinand Street in New Orleans. The task force says an arrest warrant will be obtained for Houston on similar charges to the ones faced by Sturgis.

Police said that inside the Claremont Drive residence they found coffee grinders that appeared to have been used to mix the heroin, along with other drug paraphernalia.
