New Orleans public schools are improving, but still have a long way to go – according to a new report released Wednesday.

District officials tackled the teacher shortage, but many of the new teachers in the ranks lack experience of more than two years, according to the report. 

Students said that school kitchens and bathrooms now met basic standards of cleanliness, though further improvements are needed. 

The report is a joint study by Tulane University, City Council and district officials.
