The state’s Department of Treasury announced Wednesday it had launched a new initiative to help Louisiana residents track how much their taxes were being spent by state government, according to State Treasurer John Kennedy.

“We wanted to make this information more accessible to taxpayers, because it shouldn’t require a master’s degree in finance to figure out exactly where your tax dollars are going,” Kennedy said of the “Follow Your Money” budget tracker.

Kennedy said the budget tracker separates the state’s $26.7 billion budget into various pie charts for revenues and expenditures.
