Stephens said 22-year-old Brittany Annis, was arrested Monday night after a fight with her boyfriend, 43-year-old Adam Geraci, who is the child’s father.
While the child was in the custody of the juvenile division, detectives noticed she seemed to be crying abnormally and having other problems.
Stephens said Annis admitted that the child had been born with a drug addiction.
The girl was taken to Children’s Hospital where the drug Benzodiazepine was found in her urine.
According to Stephens, Geraci said he has a prescription for the drug and that Annis had been taking some of the medication without his permission.
Annis was booked with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, which is a felony.
The child was released to the custody of a relative.
