A game of chicken that involved scalding pledges with hot a crab boil and pepper spray mix to see who could stand the most pain was at the forefront of arrests made against former Tulane fraternity members Tuesday afternoon, according to Frank D’Amico Jr., an attorney for one of the victims.
Arrest warrants were issued for 10 members of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and,as of Wednesday afternoon, all 10 of the suspects have turned themselves in.
Tulane University suspended the fraternity and said it was launching its own investigation into the event.
Police spokesman Gary Flot said that two victims were severely burned and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to D’Amico, 10 students were burned with the crab boil and pepper spray mix during the game of ‘chicken.’ He said the two who lasted the longest were the two who suffered the worst burns.
“We’re shocked and outraged that something like this could happen at a university such as Tulane,” said D’Amico. “You wouldn’t expect they would savagely burn one of their own fraternity members.”
